TACOMA, Wash.– GenCare Lifestyle at Point Ruston, a dynamic 159-apartment retirement community at Point Ruston, invites active adults and their families to experience how the wellness-focused community will improve the lives of active adults in the South Sound.

Tacoma’s newest retirement community, located just steps away from the premiere waterfront gathering place and activity hotspot at Point Ruston, will open its doors Jan. 21 for an open house celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At the free event, the public will get a first-hand opportunity to see how the new retirement community’s intentional focus on key wellness attributes – such as health, nutrition, physical fitness, brain health and living with purpose – can make a difference in the wellbeing of residents.

“We believe that wellness should be unlimited for active adults and we’ve designed a new community and approach to making sure our residents experience their best lives,” said GenCare Lifestyle President and Founder, Leon Grundstein, one of the state’s early pioneers in building retirement communities. “Our teams are focused on making wellness easier, not harder. When we do this well, that means our residents can focus on discovering new purpose and joy in their daily lives.”

Guests at the Jan. 21 Open House can tour the community’s active-living, assisted-living and memory care apartments and learn about the new community’s innovative features directly from on-site wellness and vitality experts, including:

  • Meet the Chef & Taste the Difference– GenCare’s chef and culinary team will explain why quality ingredients matter and how delicious, healthy food is the foundation of wellness. GenCare LifeStyle modeled its culinary services to include a variety of fresh, locally grown foods, including gluten-free, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, and diabetic-friendly options. Taste what’s on the menu.
  • Meet the Trainer, Checkout the Gym & Indoor Pool– Talk to GenCare’s personal trainer about creating a customized fitness plan that improves health and wellbeing and is uniquely tailored to each resident’s needs, abilities and comfort.
  • Meet the On-site Wellness Team– Talk to on-site wellness team members about how they help residents with day-to-day health concerns and provide healthcare concierge services if access to more extensive care is needed. GenCare’s wellness team helps each resident create a customized wellness plan that is unique to their respective healthcare needs and medical concerns.
  • Discover Healthcare at Home– GenCare is bringing back what was a wonderful option decades ago – a house call from a provider when not feeling well. GenCare’s mobile urgent care partner, DispatchHealth, will deliver much of what a neighborhood urgent care center provides directly to residents as they sit on their living room couch. No need to leave your GenCare home.
  • Learn About Whole Life Connect From Community Experts– Discover how GenCare is partnering with the state’s leading healthcare experts at MultiCare Health System, DispatchHealth, Olympic Sports & Spine and others to take care of the wellness needs of residents before hospitalization or a trip to the emergency room is required. The new and growing local partnership is designed to improve access to needed healthcare services, increase convenience, and if possible, bring healthcare to the resident at their GenCare home.
  • Learn Why Brain Health Matters – Our Vitality Team will explain how activities such as games, dancing and continual learning help improve brain function health. At GenCare, exercise for the mind is not only fun, but it also helps residents navigate life brilliantly.
  • Learn About the Power of Purpose From Our Vitality Team –Talk to our Vitality Team about how GenCare helps residents create new pathways to engage in the community and the world around them. Studies show that seniors with a strong sense of purpose live longer and happier lives. Learn about intergenerational programs, supporting our troops, and other community programs.

In addition to built-in wellness features, the new community offers residents a friendly environment with a strong neighborhood feel at the heart of Point Ruston, just steps away from the Puget Sound’s best waterfront esplanades and parks – where residents can readily enjoy a built-in pedestrian corridor from Downtown Tacoma to Point Defiance.

“When you walk out the doors of our retirement community, you’re stepping onto one of the Puget Sound’s best waterfront pedestrian esplanades,” said Ruthmarie Zimmerman, Executive Director of GenCare Lifestyle at Point Ruston. “It’s great to walk here, but it’s even better to live right on this wonderful community walking corridor. We’re at the center of everything down here.”

Members of the community are encouraged to RSVP for the event by calling (253) 203-6460.

Move-in day for the community’s first residents is planned for early February.
